It’s been a crazy couple of weeks. I finished my last semester of college last Friday, and tonight I’m heading to New York for the University of the Arts Portfolio Day, which is tomorrow. My classmate Jimmy Arnold did the postcard for portfolio day, and it’s really quite adorable!

So tomorrow should be really fun. I’m so excited. I’ll post photos when I get back.
I also wanted to post some new work of my own. This piece was my final for a class called Personal Viewpoint taught by Zina Saunders (www.zinasaunders.com).

I had fun experimenting with texture in this as well as the negative space in the background. Here’s a closeup of the face:

I also had fun playing around with different colored line work in this piece, as you can see.
Here is my newest piece, a portrait of my friend Yianni that I started last night and finished this morning:

Beards are tricky in my style since I work mostly with shapes, but I think this way of rendering it worked out pretty well. Both of these new pieces can be found on the Personal Viewpoint website,
www.personalviewpoint.com
Zina has decided to keep the site up even though the course is over, and she has added a gallery section for new work by the students who took the class. Pretty cool, right?
So anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to. And on Thursday I graduate from college! How surreal.
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think.

I really like the new piece, Avalon: the texture adds a lot and I love the way you did his beard. The portrait is sensitive and powerful and elegant, all at once.
